For over 400 years the Rappen has been located by the Gallow’s Tower (Galgenturm) of Rothenburg ob der Tauber and is therefore a fixture in the history of the past imperial city.
The Rappen was first documented as tavern and inn in the year 1603, in which it offered travellers, as well as their horses, comfortable lodgings and Imperial City hospitality.
In 1706, when the Rappen became a postal station and the Rappen innkeeper was appointed Imperial Postal Keeper, this historical inn gained further importance in the history of Rothenburg.
